The City & Guilds 2365 Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations builds on your Level 2 foundation, taking you into advanced electrical theory and hands-on practical skills. This is the second essential qualification on the pathway to becoming a fully qualified electrician with your JIB Gold Card.
Level 2 graduates — If you've completed the 2365 Level 2 Diploma (or equivalent such as 2330 Level 2 or 2360 Part 1), this is your natural next step.
Career changers progressing through the pathway — Many of our learners started with no electrical experience at Level 2 and move straight into Level 3 to maintain momentum.
Industry workers formalising their qualifications — If you're already working in electrical but need Level 3 to progress towards your NVQ and Gold Card.
Employers upskilling their workforce — We work with companies across the UK who book this course for their employees. In-centre practical days can be scheduled flexibly around your business needs, on weekdays or weekends.
This is a hybrid course combining flexible online theory with intensive hands-on practical training at our Nottingham centre. Study the theory units at your own pace through our online learning platform — available 24/7 on desktop, or via our mobile app for iOS and Android, with no live sessions to attend. When you're ready, book your in-centre practical days at times that suit you.
You'll need approximately 8 to 9 days at our training centre, depending on your existing practical skills. Level 3 practical work is more intensive than Level 2, covering fault diagnosis and rectification, inspection and testing procedures, and electrical systems design. We offer unlimited training days, so you can attend as many sessions as you need until you feel fully confident, at no additional cost.
In-centre days are available on both weekdays and weekends, giving you complete flexibility to fit training around work or other commitments. For employers booking multiple employees, we can arrange group sessions on dates that work for your team.
The course includes multiple-choice exams which are normally taken at the centre. If you prefer, these can also be sat remotely with online invigilation for a small additional fee.
The course covers advanced topics including three-phase electrical systems, power factor correction, and harmonics. You'll develop expertise in fault diagnosis and rectification, learn inspection and testing procedures to BS 7671 standards, and understand how to design electrical installations for domestic, commercial, and industrial environments. You'll also learn to complete and interpret electrical installation certificates, condition reports, and minor works certificates.
A key component of Level 3 is comprehensive training in initial verification and periodic inspection procedures. You'll use industry-standard test equipment including multifunction testers and insulation resistance testers, gaining the practical competence that employers and industry bodies require.
After completing Level 3, you're ready for the City & Guilds 2357 NVQ Level 3 — the workplace-based qualification that, combined with the AM2 assessment, leads to your JIB Installation Electrician Gold Card. This is the standard route for career changers and new entrants to become fully qualified electricians.
This course is eligible for ELCAS (Enhanced Learning Credits) funding for serving and former Armed Forces personnel. Total Skills is an approved ELCAS provider (Provider Number: 12999), offering up to 80% financial support.
